Theatre Arts Department

  • Highland Park Theatre Arts

Our program is open to ANY student interested in theatre. Whether on stage or behind the scenes, students get a rich, professional experience. For each of our productions we have at least one weekend of performances held Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings with a Saturday matinee as well. Rehearsals are generally after school Monday through Friday with some evening rehearsals when needed.

Students involved in technical theatre have the opportunity to learn about lighting, costumes, props, sets, make-up, stage management, choreography and directing. From concepting to production, students have hands on participation.

Our booster club - Highland Theatre Friends and Family - HTFF recruits from our community of students, their families and friends to help build sets, sew costumes and run the front of house for each performance. Contact Nancy Michael if interested - nancy.michael@spps.org

    OUR SEASON OF SHOWS:

For all shows: Tickets are available at the door - $5.00 for students and seniors, $10.00 for adults.

Fall Shows -this year we are doing two shows on the same, slightly altered set. First - CLUE (written by Sandy Rustin, based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn) - performance dates: November 17-19 and The Children's Hour written by Lillian Hellman - performance dates: December 8-10.

One Act Plays - this is an opportunity for our seniors (and sometimes juniors) to direct. We do about 5 short plays and often produce original scripts written by students. We take one of the plays to the Minnesota State High School League One Act Play contest. Performances will be held January 19-21.

Spring Musical - this year we will be producing The Addams Family, a new musical, book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. Performance dates: April 20-22.

Spring Show - TBD - this is a non-musical similar to the fall show, in that it may be any genre of theatre. In past years we have produced full 2 hour plays written by students. Performance dates: May 11-13.
