Obama Elementary Wellness Policy

  • Dear Obama Families,

The Saint Paul Public Schools Wellness Policy (533.00) supports our students’ health by including more opportunities at school for physical activity and better nutrition. Research demonstrates that eating well and being physically active improves academic achievement. Our goal is to make the healthy choice the easy choice for our students.

Together we can make a difference. Families can help promote a positive learning environment by supporting healthy celebrations and snacks that shift the focus from food to the child.

While our staff will be responsible for most of the Wellness Policy, it specifically asks the following assistance from parents and guardians:

    • Both the school and the bus are "sweet-free" zones
    • Families are encouraged to pack healthy lunches and snacks including fruits and vegetables
    • Celebrate Treat Free. Celebrations, including birthdays, that involve food during the school day are limited to no more than one party per class per month.

Obama Elementary will adhere to the SPPS Wellness Policy by celebrating birthdays, one time per month. We will use the Awards Assembly Day as our “Celebration” day. This will allow academic and special events to be celebrated schoolwide on the same day.

We appreciate your commitment to the wellness and education of our students.
