2017 MCA Results: SPPS Sees Slight Gains on MCA Test Scores in Science; Reading and Math Scores Show Small Declines

SAINT PAUL — District-wide MCA test results for the 2016-17 school year show that compared to 2016, Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) saw slight changes including increases in science proficiency and declines in reading and math proficiency.

“Although we are encouraged by the overall increase in science and gains in reading in our upper grades, we are concerned about the lack of progress in
general,” said Dr. Kate Wilcox-Harris, Chief Academic Officer for the district.

“Certainly, it is troubling when scores decline, even by a small amount,” she added. “By working more closely with staff, families and our community,
we will find ways to increase achievement for every student.”
