Frequently Asked Questions

    1. If I signed up to give last year, is it necessary to make a new pledge in 2018 for the 2019 calendar year?
      • Yes. A pledge is only good for one year.
    2. How does the online system work?
      1. Log in with your username and password
        1. If this is your first time logging in, you'll need to select your subdivision (work location)
        2. If you forgot your username and/or password, click the "I forgot my login or password" link at the bottom of the popup
      2. Enter your employee ID (no "e")
      3. Fill in the required sections and select the funds of your choice.
      4. Click on “Submit” at the bottom of the page.
      5. Click on your pledge from the confirmation page to print the record of your donation.
      6. If you do not have access to a computer, you may pick up a paper donation form from your campaign coordinator or print one from this website. Fill out the form and deliver it to Kathy Weyandt in the Office of Communications, Marketing & Development at 360 Colborne.
    3. From how many pay periods will deductions be taken?
      • Donations come out of every paycheck in 2019. Depending on your pay schedule, that could mean 26, 23, or 21 paychecks. You may also choose to give a one-time donation.
    4. When will the first paycheck deduction be made?
      • Deductions begin in January of 2019. To determine your total donation, multiply your payroll pledge by the number of paychecks you receive. The online form calculates this automatically.
    5. When will the one-time donation deduction be made?
      • One-time donations will be deducted in January of 2019.
    6. Can I find out what my donation was last year?
      • Yes. Log in to the donation website and click "My Pledges & Profile,"  then "My Pledges" to see what you donated in past years.
    7. Can I donate to an organization or program that is NOT one of the approved charities?
      • Yes. Select "Add a Write-in Charity" to donate to any 501(c)(3) organization, such as your place of worship, PTA, or other charity. You can also donate to a specific SPPS school or program with this feature.
    8. Can I ask that my gift be acknowledged?
      • Yes. Check the box on the online pledge form and fill in your email address to receive your acknowledgement.
    9. Is my donation confidential?
      • You may choose to give anonymously, in which case your gift is 100% confidential. If you choose to be acknowledged for your gift, your site coordinator may put your name in a drawing for prizes. However, your coordinator cannot see how much money each person donates, or where they donate. If you do not wish to participate in drawings, please donate anonymously or speak with your site coordinator.
    10. Are payroll donations pre-tax or post-tax?
      • Payroll deductions are subject to payroll taxes. However, if you give more than $250, you may be eligible for a tax credit if you itemize deductions when filing your income tax return.
    11. Does the IRS accept a paycheck stub as a receipt?
      • The IRS requires that you have a copy of your donation confirmation page (which you can print when you complete your pledge), and your final paycheck of the year (which you can print from ESS).
      • A receipt is necessary if you give $250 or more per paycheck or as a single gift. At that level of giving, the Fund provides a receipt.
    12. How do I cancel or change an existing paycheck deduction?
      • Contact Maureen Hartung at mhartung@communitysharesmn.org. Send a written notice, including your employee ID number, to the Payroll Department.
    13. Can employees donate cash or check?
      • We prefer that you use the payroll deduction system. However, we can accept cash or check donations. Fill out the paper pledge form, place it in an envelope with your cash and deliver it to Kathy Weyandt in the Office of Communications, Marketing & Development at 360 Colborne.
    14. Who chooses which charitable organizations are in the campaign?
      • The charities apply to be part of the campaign, and the Chief Operations Officer evaluates and decides on applications.
    15. Where do I find more information?
      • If you have questions that your site campaign coordinator cannot answer, contact Maureen Hartung at 651-647-0440 x214 or mhartung@communitysharesmn.org.
