Degrees and Certifications:
Rosa I. Miyashiro Matsumoto is one of the school counselors at LEAP (part time). This is her second year working with LEAP refugees and immigrant students supporting their social-emotional, academic and college/career needs. She is working part time for the “Never Too Late to Graduate” program aimed at re-engaging students who dropped out of school.
Rosa was born and raised in Lima-Peru. Her grandparents were from Okinawa-Japan, where she spent 6 months during a scholarship in 1997-98. She learned the language and culture, did a practicum in a psychiatric hospital, and met other members of her family. In Peru, she is a licensed psychologist. She also completed a two-year Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training after graduation.
After migrating to the United States 15 years ago, Rosa completed her master’s degree in school counseling. She has lived in New Jersey and New York prior to settling down in Minnesota. As an Okinawan-Peruvian in the US, she is very passionate about supporting and advocating for our refugees/ immigrants students.
Some of her hobbies include: travel, walking, watching movies, making new friends, reading, and spending time with her 9-year-old son, husband and dog.
