• Maadaadizi is the Ojibwe word for "to start a journey".  The SPPS Indian Education Maadaadizi School Counseling Program is a unique service that provides specialized and specific services to American Indian students attending SPPS high schools.

    During the 2019-2020 school year, the Indian Education School Counselor, Kerrie Troseth, will be providing supplemental*, culturally-responsive counseling services and activities to 9th-12th grade American Indian students at the following schools…

    • Central (counseling small group during semester 1)
    • Como Park (Walking in Balance once a month)
    • Creative Arts (mural making for art portfolios)
    • Gateway (counseling small group during semester 2)
    • Harding (Walking in Balance once a month; Indigenous Entrepreneurs all year)
    • Highland (counseling small group during semester 1)
    • Humboldt (counseling small group during semester 2)
    • Johnson (Walking in Balance once a month)
    • Washington Tech (counseling small group during semester 2)

    *Please note that these services do not replace the traditional, school counseling services available at the SPPS high schools.  Students and families are strongly encouraged to communicate with their assigned high school counselor regarding school-specific supports, including graduation requirements/credits, tutoring, interventions, and engagement.
