Welcome to the SPPS Grants Office

  • Grant management icon. A grant is a legal contract to provide funding for a specific goal or outcome. It is not a gift, free of obligation or expectations. Grant funding comes from a variety of public and private sources. Grants allow SPPS to further educational research, expand services, and provide programs or resources to students that would otherwise not be possible. If you work with grants, or would like to work with them in the future, it may be helpful to familiarize yourself with the life cycle of a grant.

Money given to a school or program with any expectations or strings attached is considered a grant and should be managed accordingly.

The SPPS Grants Office supports teachers, school leaders and administrators through all stages of the grants process, from application to closeout and final reporting. All grants come through the SPPS Grants Office in one way or another. All grant acceptances must be approved by the superintendent and the  board of education, and we can help with this process.

    Grants Office services include:

    • Application development and submission
    • Board approval
    • Budget development
    • Fund development
    • Grant contracts
    • Grant management
    • Letters of support
    • Program creation and proposal writing

See the Applying for Grants page for more details on these services.

Follow the SPPS Grants Facebook Group to keep up to date on funding opportunities.

  • Giving Tuesday is Coming!

Not as well-known as Give to the Max day, Giving Tuesday (aka #GivingTuesday) is another great opportunity for schools and programs to fund their projects and special activities. Giving Tuesday is held the Tuesday after U.S. Thanksgiving, December 1st this year. It was started as a joint effort by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation in 2012, to create an international day of charitable giving.

In 2019, Giving Tuesday was one of the biggest days of the year for giving on DonorsChoose. If you've been considering setting up an Adopt a Classroom or DonorsChoose campaign, now is the time to do so.

On Tuesday, December 1, starting at 7AM ET, every donation to a DonorsChoose project will be doubled. This means that a $20 donation will become a $40 donation, a $100 donation will become a $200 donation, and so on.

If you’ve missed other fundraising opportunities, or they’ve fallen a little short of your goals, now’s the time to act. Before Tuesday, December 1, be sure to:

    1. Check our Online Fundraising page for suggestions to set up a successful fundraiser
    2. Make sure your DonorsChoose, Adopt a Classroom, and/or GiveMN fundraiser is ready to go
    3. Check the donate button at the top right corner of your school’s homepage, and confirm that it’s linked to an active fundraiser
