Hello!  I am very excited to be teaching mathematics at Como Park Senior High School this year!

I worked as a math teacher for many years before coming to Como.  Most of those years I spent teaching at South High School in Minneapolis (Go Tigers!).  I also worked in the financial industry as a quantitative financial analyst where I used calculus and other advanced mathematics on a daily basis.

This year I am happy to be teaching Analysis and Precalculus.

Course Descriptions:

Analysis

The purpose of this class is to strengthen the algebra skills of students who desire to be successful in a mathematics course beyond high school. The math topics studied in the first half of the year will lay the foundation for the second half of the year.  The class will be based on the textbook “College Algebra Concepts and Models” by Larson, Hostetler, and Hodgkins.

Topics in this course include:

  • Functions and their Graphs,
  • Polynomial and Rational Functions,
  • Exponential and Logarithmic Functions,
  • Systems of Equations and Inequalities
  • Matrices and Determinants
  • Sequences, Series, and Probability

In addition to preparing you for calculus, topics covered will help prepare you for MCA, ACT, and SAT tests.

Precalculus

As the name implies, Precalculus is a course that prepares students for Calculus. By the end of the course, you will be proficient in your algebraic, trigonometric and analytic geometry skills. Precalculus students find the course is a nice review of previous high school topics. They also will notice how those previous topics are expanded upon. Topics in this course include:

  • Functions and their Graphs,
  • Trigonometry,
  • Linear Systems and Matrices,
  • Sequences and Series,
  • Analytic Geometry (Conics),
  • Limits, and an Introduction to Calculus,
  • Real-World Applications of Mathematics.

In addition to preparing you for calculus, topics covered will help prepare you for MCA, ACT, and SAT tests.
