Welcome to Vocal Music at Capitol Hill!
In Elementary Music Class students sing, move, create, perform, compose, collaborate, analyze, write, discuss, stretch, and play as they grow in their artful musicianship. My goal with all students is to welcome them into the world of musicianship and lead them through fun, creative, exhilarating, intriguing, and disciplined experiences that challenge them to think deeply and musically, to perhaps try new things or think in new ways, and to allow them to explore their own musicianship and the culture of musicianship.
Middle School Choir is a performance-based course that provides students an opportunity to learn self-discipline, responsibility, group cohesiveness, leadership, and trust, as they develop their voices and personal growth by being a positive, contributing member of the choral ensemble. Students will learn to sing a variety of music styles from quality choral literature from around the world in unison, and in two- or three-part harmony. Through daily rehearsals, various musical concepts will be taught with an emphasis on skills relating to singing: correct breathing and vocal techniques (diction, range, blend, balance, phrasing, intonation, articulation, and tone quality), sight-singing, and music theory concepts. Students will also learn what it takes to prepare for a concert and to perform. Additionally, students will explore units in composition, improvisation, small ensembles, and responding to music from various genres and cultures.
EDL Choir is available to 4th and 5th grade students as part of the after school EDL program. Students may register for this class when they register for other EDL classes. Busing home is available!
Our next Choir Concert will be on Tuesday, May 14th in the Large Gym starting at 6:30pm featuring both the Middle School Choir and the 4th and 5th Grade EDL Choir. We hope to see you there!
