Hello! My name is Mrs. Hitchens and I have been a part of the Crossroads Elementary Science family since 2008. Prior to working at Crossroads, I was a corporate banker. When my oldest child started school, I began volunteering and discovered I had a passion for working with young children. This love for teaching evolved into me taking a job as a Teaching Assistant for both the Science and Montessori programs and eventually led to me pursuing a Masters Degree in the Arts of Education.
I believe in seeing children as individuals and teach them to their individual needs. My classroom is intentionally designed to have space for students to work independently on skills and learning centers for Literacy and Math that support standard based learning targets. I value community and citizenship, which are held to the highest standards in my classroom. Each student is taught to take ownership of their education and to advocate for their educational needs.
When I am not teaching, I am a wife and mother of 4 beautiful girls. We enjoy discovering new things to do and places to go as a family. One of my favorite places to visit is Minnesota State Arboretum. I love to read (my favorite thing to do), watch movies, and sit outside with a nice cup of coffee.
