SPPS Career Fields and Pathways
-
Students will have access to Career Pathway courses at their home high school in these 4 SPPS Career Fields.
Career Pathways are a series of courses (at least five) aligned to post-secondary programs that provide a progression of classes for students from ninth or tenth grade through senior year. The courses prepare students for a full range of post-secondary options in high-wage, in-demand careers. Career Pathways provide opportunities to receive college credit, certifications, credentials, internships, job training and career exploration through industry partnerships. Some examples of Career Pathways are Engineering, Education and Community Justice, Medical, and Business.
Career Pathways will be integrated into each core content area with a career related unit ending with a reflection in a student’s Personal Learning Plan.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Supported by Carl D. Perkins federal funding, there are over 120 CTE Courses in SPPS, that prepare students for success through rigorous and project based curriculum. Many of these courses make up the SPPS Career Pathways. The areas of CTE are Agriculture, Business, Communications, Construction, Family and Consumer Sciences, Medical Careers, Engineering, and Work Based Learning
