Dr. Samuel C Ducatman
I am a 3rd year teacher at Como Park Senior High School. I just got my teacher's license in Physics from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Before that, I got a physics PhD studying magnetism in metals, also at the University of Minnesota.
I currently teach astronomy (Periods 5 and 6), "College in the Schools Physics" (Period 3), and Physical Science (Periods 7 and 8)
In physics and physical science, we study how to describe motion using basic principles such Newton's laws. Students can expect a mixture of lab work, applied mathematics, some philosophy and history of science, and some discussion of application to technology.
In astronomy, we apply these principles to understand the behaviour of stars and galaxies. We begin with why and how different cultures throughout the world practiced astronomy, discuss how the development of physics shaped astronomy, and finally work our way up from the solar system all the way to the universe and the big bang. Unfortunately, astronomy as a sscience does not in general have experiments.
Some fun facts about me:
--My daughter was born in May. She is our first, so I have been very busy learning to be a parent.
--I like to hike, camp, and bike. I have not been able to do them much recently though.
--I like "dad jokes" and will try and slip them into my regular speech.
You can contact me at samuel.ducatman@stpaul.k12.mn.us .
You can also call me. During distance learning, I prefer you call my "google voice" number of (651) 419-6934. You can also office phone at Como Park Senior High at (651)-744-1907, but as long as we are in distance learning I will not be able to pick up as I am teaching from home.
I will have parent-teacher conferences between March 8th and March 12th for parents interested. To schedule a parent-teacher conference, please go to https://calendly.com/cphsducatman/parent-teacher-conference
