Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Melissa DeStasio-Anderson

Hello!  My name is Melissa and this is my second year teaching at Highland Park Elementary.  I have been teaching in St. Paul for 8 years. I began teaching in 1997-2000 and then took 11 years off to stay home with my 3 children. I live in Rosemount MN with my husband Brent and 3 children.  Our oldest, Noah, is now 21 years old and is in his last semester at Creighton University in Omaha NE. Sophia is 19 at will start her second year at St. Olaf. Our youngest daughter, Tessa, will be in 11th grade at Rosemount High School.

I teach a morning class for children 3-5 years old that have an Individual Education Plan.  In the afternoon I travel to other schools in the school district to support children in the general education preschool classes that have an Individual Education Plan.

I have a undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Minnesota and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of St. Thomas. I love working with young children and am passionate about supporting kids and families in the beginning steps of preschool and moving into kindergarten.  I am excited for this year to begin and for the time to work with the wonderful children, families, and staff.
