Degrees and Certifications:
Ziying Kvitrud (Chen Laoshi)
My name is Ziying Chen Kvitrud (Chen Laoshi) and I am the 4th grade instructor of JieMing Mandarin Immersion Academy. I originally come from Sichuan Province, China which is famous for spicy food and hot weather.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Pedagogy, a K-12 Chinese Teaching license and K-6 Elementary Education license through the Department of Education in Minnesota. In my personal life, I have uprooted my life in Southwest China and moved to the greater Twin Cities with my husband who is originally from the area in October 2017.
I’ve been a teacher for the vast majority of my professional career. I’ve instructed at the collegiate level at Chongqing University in China where I worked closely with young adults from all over the globe. I’ve also worked in Pisa Confucius Institute, Italy where I worked with aspiring individuals and enhanced my still-fluent Italian Language. More recently I have international grade and high school experience with Knowledge Link International Schools in Chongqing and public educational institutions in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.
I truly believe the most rewarding experiences are found when going outside of a personal comfort zone in our changing world. I look at my instructed class in the same perspective. My philosophy for my classroom including myself, is to become “A better me each and every day.” Through daily communication, reflection, and practice, students are encouraged to continually strive for improvement.
As a first-year teacher here at Jie Ming and in St. Paul’s Public Schools, I look forward to working with all members of the learning community. I’m eagerly anticipating discussing classroom matters, student progress, and goals and objectives for each student throughout the year.
