Role at Global Arts Plus Upper: 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher
Years at Global Arts Plus Upper: 4
Hello, I'm Ms. Hunt, the 7th-grade social studies teacher. I am excited to explore US History with our Global Arts Plus students this year. I also teach a 7th/8th grade elective focused on current events in our world.
I studied History and Education at Bethel University after being inspired by my 11th grade History teacher when I was in high school in Rochester, MN. My hope is that I can help students connect the past with the present and equip them with critical thinking skills to engage their world now and in the future.
We begin 7th grade with a look at our founding documents, then make our way through the 19th and 20th centuries, tracking how well we have lived up to the promises and dreams of our country's ideals. During 2nd and 3rd quarters, students participate in History Day, a personalized, comprehensive research project that allows them to dig deep into topics of their choosing and then present their findings to the school community.
In These Times...World Issues is the current events class at Global Arts Plus. We focus on the news, as well as historical trends that help us understand the news. We will focus on projects and skill development in all areas of study.
When I am not teaching, I am often enjoying my St. Paul neighborhood, my garden, a good book, and time with my family. I have three adult children who all live in Chicago. Our dogs, Chase and Milo, also keep me busy!
