Mr. Alex Medina

Hello! My name is Mr. Medina (pronounced meh-DEE-nah) and I teach 6th Minnesota Studies. This will be my 3rd year teaching at Battle Creek!

I moved to Minnesota in 2010 and graduated from Waubun High School (located about 50 miles west of Itasca State Park and 30 miles north of Deroit Lakes) in 2014. I attended the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities Campus from 2014-2019, earning a B.A. in History (with a minor in Global Studies) in 2018 and a M.Ed. of Social Studies Education in 2019.

In my free time, I like to play guitar, play video games and listen to music. I also enjoy hanging out with friends, watching movies and documentries, and reading a good book.

In my class, students will learn about the history, people, places, and things of Minnesota, including learning about the Dakota and Ojibwe peoples, Minnesota's involvment in the Civil War, and the Rondo Community. My goal is to have students read, write, and discuss various topics everyday in class. I am also a strong advocate of brining social justice issues into the classroom where we can learn about the origins of various issues and create opprotunites to tackle these issues.

I am looking foward to having a great year!
