Mr. Wiczek

My name is Shaw Wiczek. I am teaching Health and a Recreational Sports class at Battle Creek Middle School. This is my second year of teaching, and my second year at Battle Creek Middle School. I graduated from the University of Northwestern, St. Paul in the spring of 2019. Some things that I enjoy doing outside of school is getting outside and playing sports. My favorite sport to play is hockey; however, I love to play tennis, pickleball, football, and spikeball with family and friends. I also coach a 8th and 9th grade hockey team during the winters. A fun fact about me is that I have 6 siblings (5 brothers and 1 sister). I got into teaching because I really enjoy helping others learn new things, especially when it comes to the life skills that you learn in Health and Physical Education. Also, I wanted to have a positive impact on students lives.

The purpose of our Recreational Sports is provide the students with the skills and confidence to be able to participate in life-long Physical Activity. With the Health benefits of Physical Activitiy, we want the students to be able to find the kinds of physical activities that they enjoy themselves. We will be learning more about perfecting our own individual skills during Distance Learning, to improve the students application of the skills in games when we are back in school.

The purpose of Health is to learn life skills that we will be able to use to improve our daily lives. Examples of some life skills include being able to process out our emotions and thinking about our decisions before we act on them, setting goals that are challenging but also achievable, communication skills, conflict resolution, and many more! The different areas that we will cover in Health include: Personal Wellness; Mental & Emotional Health; Physical Health/Fitness; Nutrition; Tobacco, Alcohol, and Other Drugs; Human Relationships and Reproduction.
