Ms. Kayla Roste

Hi Pilots! Welcome to another year at Murray!

I'm very excited to be back with you all for another year of learning and discovery (even if it is a lot different than we anticipated!). For those who don't know me, my name is Kayla Roste. This is my second year at Murray, but my eighth year of teaching overall (granted, my most unique one yet!).

I grew up in Mitchell, South Dakota, where I went to school with roughly 150 students K-12. I attended a high school of about 50 students and graduated with 11 others. I made the jump into a little bit of a bigger "pond" when I moved to Minnesota and attended Crown College where I earned a degree in ESL Education. Following graduation, I moved to an even bigger pond... across the pond... to Wuhan, China. Yes, that Wuhan, and as you can imagine, it's a lot different than people think it is. I lived and worked in a small international community teaching at Wuhan Yangtze International School.

After moving back to the United States in 2015, I taught in various schools and districts across the metro before settling in St Paul and at Murray in 2019. I am proud to be part of the Pilot community.

I am currently pursuing an additional license in Special Education after several years in the classroom have helped me see the need for broadening my own learning about how students learn differently as unique individuals. I am anticipating a graduation date of October 2021.

I am a firm believer that all students can learn regardless of background, race, language or any other social construct or barrier that might be put in place. My job as a teacher is to tear down those barrier to help all students find success in the classroom.

On a personal note, I am married to Steve, and while we don't currently have any kids, we have a two year old lab that we adore named Copper. When I'm not at school, you can often find me hanging out at home in my backyard playing frisbee with Copper, tending to my plants and flowers, reading my latest fantasy or mystery novel, cheering on the Minnesota United at their new stadium, or playing Age of Empires on my computer.

I also competitively dock dive with my dog Copper and this past summer we actually got an invite to the Eukaneuba National Championships, which we sadly had to turn down due to the most recent COVID spike in the area. It was still very exciting to be invited and was a great accomplishment for both of us!

In the photo gallery below, you can see some of our adventures when I'm not in school. As you can tell, most of our time is spent with Copper! :)

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out or ask! I am happy to help support you or your child!

Go Pilots!
