Degrees and Certifications:
BS in Chemistry 2000
I started teaching in 2016 as a substitute teacher in St Paul. My first assignment was at Farnsworth and I loved the school starting then. Since then I have taught at Adams Spanish Immersion Magnet and now back to Farnsworth for the 2019-20 school year. I will be teaching Aerospace, Environmental Science, and Flight Simulators this year.
I got my BS in Chemistry from Tufts University in 2000 and worked as a chemist for 4 years before moving to Minnesota from Boston and staying at home with the kids for a few years. I decided to try teaching (I taught some college labs and discussion classes in chemistry) and loved it. My wife and I moved here in 2004 with a 2 week old and have come to call this home.
I spend any free time I have with my family and outside. I love hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, anything to be outside!
In Aerospace II this year we will be learning about astronomy, doing an engineering challenge and studying the history of the space race. Students will do projects to help reinforce things they have learned and the engineering challenge is designed to have them gather data and test their ideas. Using the data they will determine what changes need to be made and retest.
For Environmental Science we will explore what environmental science is and what the component parts are. We will do some projects and a lot of sketching/ observation of the world around us. We will explore the relationships between the various parts of an ecosystem.
Flight Sims will include how planes work, how communication works between pilots and ground control, how to read the instruments and then challenges where they will work with a partner to read a map and find some point of interest and take a picture of it.
