Ms. Justine Selsing
Ms. Justine is Riverview’s science teacher this year, which is also her first year teaching in Saint Paul Public Schools. She graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, California with a BA in English, and then received her Master’s in Education from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. She has taught in San Jose, San Francisco, and Minneapolis as a kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classroom teacher, as well as an art and technology specialist.
When she is not teaching, she is usually found throwing pottery in the ceramics studio, cooking, or playing with her cat, Moses. She also enjoys taking care of plants and gardens, frequenting thrift stores, and watching The Great British Baking Show to “get ideas” for things she will never actually bake.
She is relatively new to the Twin Cities, and has lived in Minneapolis for two years now. She and her partner, Adam, enjoy traveling as much as possible. She has two younger brothers, and her parents are ex-suburbanites living in Boston, Massachusetts.
Justine is incredibly excited to join the Riverview team and feels very lucky to get to be a science teacher for so many talented and enthusiastic scholars. She has been privileged with a childhood and education that has afforded her so many opportunities, and one quote that helps to express her goals as an educator is by Toni Morrison: “Remember that your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else.”
