Hello. My name is Shari Mleczewski, and I grew up on the West Coast of the United States, where I learned to speak, read, and write Spanish. Learning another language has been such a rewarding process, that I decided to help children new to English with acquiring its vocabulary and grammar. I attended the University Of Minnesota and have been teaching in the public schools ever since--almost twenty years!
What especially interests me is Cognitive-Based Compassion Education. Science says that teaching secular ethics and developing our natural warm-heartedness makes students both happier and healthier. This approach to education is especially gaining momentum in Asia, where I love to travel.
Here in St. Paul's Bruce Vento Elementary School, I co-teach thematically with first-grade teachers, so that children learn their class' academic English in fun and fast ways. If you come to visit, you might see me reading a story and discussing it with students, singing a song related to the content, exploring phonics contextually from this familiar chant or song, and then writing about it in small groups. Please feel free to visit my classroom at any time, or email me at email@example.com. I look forward to meeting and working with you.
