Teacher, English Language Learners, grades 1-3, Crossroads Science Elementary

Hello! Konnichiwa!  I am so glad to be joining the Crossroads team this year. I teach multilingual students in grades 1-3, supporting their literacy in content areas like science and writing.

“Variety is the Spice of Life!” is the best way to sum up my attitude and my experiences in education.  I began my teaching career as an intern for a US Department of Education program called the Multicultural Education Project at the University of Wisconsin.  After graduating, I had the opportunity to live, travel, and teach in Japan. It was a fascinating way to learn another language and culture.

In 2018, I celebrated my 25th year of teaching in Saint Paul Public Schools.  Over the years, I have thoroughly enjoyed roles as a science specialist, classroom teacher, ELL teacher, gifted and talented coordinator, curriculum specialist, mentor and presenter.   Even though each role has its own flavor, they all have a common theme:  Honoring the whole child and the diverse cultures, gifts, and talents that each student brings to learning.

One of my greatest joys is finding ways to explore the outdoors as another classroom.  I love fresh air, the seasons, trees, birds, and animals.  I hope to connect children to the natural world for learning, exploration, and FUN!  Here is a short video my nephew Jack and I made to encourage families to go outside to listen for all sorts of sounds …. https://vimeo.com/406231162

The children of Crossroads are wonderful!  They are kind, curious, and ready to learn. We are launched and ready to roll.

Thank you! Domo arigato!!
