Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Gunsten

My name is Chuck Gunsten and I am thrilled to be joining the Global Arts Plus community! I’ve spent the past 9 years teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th grade between Jackson Elementary and Groveland Park Elementary. Before that I taught 5th and 6th grade in Bloomington and Seattle for several years. My wife Molly and I are both St. Paul natives and graduates of St. Paul Public Schools. We live in the neighborhood just a few blocks away! I have three children: Maeve who is 12 and is entering 7th grade at Capitol Hill, Walter who is 9 years old and is entering 4th grade also at Capitol Hill, and our youngest son Declan who just turned 3 in April.

I have been a teacher for over 15 years, and I am very passionate about education. I love teaching 4th grade and I’m very excited to return to a 4th grade classroom this year. When I am not teaching, I love traveling with my family, camping, and watching Minnesota Sports.

Even though we are starting the year in Distance Learning, I am excited to begin the process of getting to know the families, students, and staff at Global Arts! Please feel to contact me at any point with any questions.

Here is the latest information from Mr. Gunsten's class:

As we move towards the holidays and a new year, please take a moment to make sure eveything is going okay with distance learning- and let me know if there is anything I can do to help!

-Attendance: Make sure your 4th grader is checking in on Campus every day. I do my best to remember who is at our Google Meets and who does work, but I do forget sometimes! The only sure way to make sure your child is being counted as present is to check-in on Campus student. If you or your 4th grader needs a reminder on how to do this, let me know.

-Schedule: Our schedule has stayed pretty much the same with a few small changes. All students need to attend the morning meeting at 9:30 every school day. We do morning meeting from 9:30-9:50 and now we are doing the math lesson most days from 9:50-10:15. Then we have specialists from 10:20-11:10. Starting after winter break we will do our literacy lesson from 11:30-12:00. I also have office hours and social meet from 2:15-2:45 Monday through Thursday.

-Specialists: Speaking of schedules- specialists are reporting that very few students are showing up to the 10:20 Google Meet for specialists (days vary by specialist). Just a reminder- specialists classes are not optional. Let me know if you have any questions about this.

-Arts residency: We are currently working on setting up an arts residency for our 4th grade class that will take the place of the opera (even though I've heard that the opera is irreplaceable!). Stay tuned for more updates after winter break!

That's about it for now. Be sure to reach out with any questions or concerns.

    Take care, Chuck Gunsten

    1. We will be using Schoology as our main learning platform this year. Login information should be coming out, if your child does not have their Schoology login, you can visit OneStop or please email me at if you can not login.

Students will be using the Elementary Class course to find all their materials for Distance Learning. This means all Math, Reading, Writing and other subjects will be contained in one course.

    2. If students are having any iPad issues, you can send a service request to or call (651) 603-4958 between 8am and 4pm Monday-Friday.

    3. Virtual Open House is on Thursday, September 3rd from 5:30 - 7:00. All information about the Virtual Open House will be on our school webpage by Thursday morning. We will have Google Meets open for you to join our class. Please check your email for the Meet code.

    4. Our first day of school will begin with a Morning Meeting on Tuesday, September 8th at 9:30.

     5. "Remind"- Hopefully you received an email or text asking you to join our class on "Remind". I'll be using this platform as the main communication tool this year, so please reach out if you did not receive anything from Remind, or have questions about it.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns as we start this very unusual school year. My contact information is listed below. I am so excited to get started on September 8th! I hope to see you at our Virtual Open House tomorrow!
