This is Ms. Kirstin (KEER-stin) Maxam’s first year teaching at Dayton’s Bluff after graduating from her special education teacher preparation program in May, 2020. Ms. Maxam is so excited to be joining this community to teach Special Education in Pre-K and Kindergarten!
Ms. Maxam received her Master’s in Education at the University of Minnesota with dual licenses in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) and K-12 Special Education. She has experience working with exceptional students and families through her classroom student teaching placements and while working for the last four years as an in-home Personal Care Assistant (PCA). Ms. Maxam’s passion is building up students for their unique qualities, partnering with families, and finding creative solutions to make the learning environment enjoyable and fulfilling for every child. Her happiest moments in the classroom are when she sees her students using their skills to solve problems, whether they be academic, social or emotional!
In her free time, Ms. Maxam enjoys listening to music, podcasts and audiobooks, watching her favorite sitcoms (The Office) on repeat, and getting outside as much as possible. This summer has been spent enjoying being newly engaged, preparing for a move to White Bear Lake with her fiancé, and snuggling with their sweet, four-month old niece, Avery!
As a new teacher in the time of Covid-19, Ms. Maxam is committed to supporting her students and their families with empathy, creativity and flexibility. She believes patience and open-mindedness is key to making it through this time and looks forward to working with her colleagues and the Dayton’s Bluff community to make this year as successful as possible.
