Mme Laura Ostertag
Bonjour et bienvenue!
Je m'appelle Laura Ostertag - Madame Ostertag en classe. I am excited about starting a new school year in French at Capitol Hill. I have been at SPPS since 2000. My experience teaching French has been at the middle school and senior high levels - mostly senior high.
Learning a new language is so exciting, and I can't wait to meet the students who are choosing to learn a second, third (or more) language - le français! Language study provides many opportunities to explore cultures and multiple perspectives in addition to learning to communicate in French. We will practice all modalities of language learning - listening, reading, speaking and writing. We will do this in a variety of ways to appeal to multiple learning styles.
I grew up in the Twin Cities and my ancestors are from northeastern France and Germany. I studied at the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul and completed my Masters in French at the University of Northern Iowa - Angers, France. I have traveled and, at times, lived in 9 different French-speaking countries, regions and islands and have many more I hope to see...
In my free time, I love to read, travel, and hike. I also enjoy mysteries and international films.
This year I will teach Exploring French in 4th grade and Exploring World Languages in sixth grade, French 1 in 7th grade and French 2 in 8th grade. I encourage parents, guardians and students to contact me with questions, concerns and/or to chat.
