My name is Jeff Garcia, and I am excited to be starting my second year teaching at PMMS. I am a special education teacher specializing in teaching Reading Strategies and Study Skills for High School/College & Career Readiness. My goal as a teacher is to ensure all of our students are successful and have opportunities to grow their knowledge at Parkway!
I have been with SPPS as an educator for 7 years, beginning as a dramatic arts instructor for Community Education at Expo Elementary, becoming a TA at Johnson Senior High School, and then completing the SPPS Urban Teacher Residency (SUTR) program at Highland Park Middle. As a former camp counselor and National History Day mentor, I have worked with youth in different capacities for over 14 years.
I hail from The Bronx, NY, went to high school in New Jersey, and moved to Minnesota to attend Macalester College, where I earned a B.A. in History. I recently completed my M.A. in Education and my teacher licensure at the University of St. Thomas through the SUTR program.
I come from a family of public servants, from NYC bus drivers and teachers to detectives and sanitation workers. Service always comes first for me, and I try to pass on the value of serving others through my work at Parkway. I’m honored to serve the East Side as a teacher and to have made Saint Paul my adopted home.
