I am Ms. Katie.  This is now my 4th year at Phalen Lake Hmong Studies as the School Social Worker and I love being here! I am a new mom of 2 kids I have adopted with a full house of creatures- a dog, cat, snake(who is missing), gecko, and so many bugs! I love gardening, reading science fiction books, looking for adventures, spending time with family and friends, growing flower seeds, visiting Lake Superior, and sleeping in on the weekends!   

 

I have worked in a variety of settings in the Social Work field, including work with Restorative Justice, community health clinics and hospitals, children and adult mental health support, grief and loss, and crisis intervention. I absolutely love working with kids and think being at Phalen Lake Hmong Studies elementary school is the perfect place to be! I speak some Spanish, American Sign Language, and formerly studied Chinese and Ojibwe. I am excited to learn some Hmong (but I am getting things mixed up with Mandarin)! 

 

I am available to support both students and their families. I believe:  Hate is a virus-not Asians, Black Lives Matter, Science is Real, Women's Rights are Human Rights, This is Native Land, Education is Power, No Human is Illegal, Love is Love is Love, Healthcare is a Right, Water is Life, Trans Rights are Human Rights, News isn't fake, In Being Anti-Racist, Action speaks louder than words, and that Kindness is everything.
