Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Watters

Hi, all! Welcome to 6th Grade Reader's and Writer's Workshop! I am so excited to have you a member of the "flock!"

My name is Rebecca Watters, and I am entering into my third year of teaching and my first year at Battle Creek. I am originally from the northern suburbs of Chicago, IL, but I have been in the Twin Cities for almost two years now. I receieved my degree from the University of Kentucky, and I can teach both Language Arts and Social Studies. I am SO excited to teach both reader's and writer's workshop this year. I truly believe reading and writing are critical to a human's development, learning, and success. My room is always easy to find; it's full of flamingos! Flamingos are my favorite animal, and I utilize many flamingo puns, including our "flock" to describe our classroom community we build in workshop!

Outside of school, I enjoy cooking, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. I'm active and have run half marathons and currently play in recreational softball and kickball leagues. I love exploring restaurants around the Twin Cities and am always open to suggestions. The most important part of my life is my family: my fiance, Adam, and my dog, Duncan. The three of us love to travel (when we can post-pandemic), kayak, hike, and watch HGTV and Food Network. Finally, I'm usually reading at least three books at a time: a student-centered text, a non-fiction personal development book, and a fictional novel (usually mystery). Recently, I downloaded an audiobook app to enjoy literature while on my commute!

Again, I am SO excited to meet each and every member of our classroom community. I cannot wait to embark on a journey of reading, writing, and self growth together this year. Welcome to the flock!
