Mr. Alex Ford

Math Specialist

About Me:

My name is Mr. Ford, and I have been teaching mathemtics to middle school students since 2004.

I taught at Captiol Hill Middle School for 15 years, where I taught students in grades 5-8 in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry, among other courses, and I coached the math team.

In 2018 I took a leave of absence to work abroad. My family spent two years working and going to school at an international school in Hangzhou, China. I taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade math in the IB MYP program. We were fortunate to have had that opportunity to see a differnt part of the world, travel, meet new people and learn new things. We truly enjoyed our time in Asia, but we are happy to be back in Saint Paul.

For the 2020-2021 school year I worked at LILA, a language immersion charter school in Forest Lake until I could return to SPPS. There I worked as a special education teacher and math co-teacher with three wonderful educators. I learned a lot about specialised services, co-teaching, and the IB program.

I have two sons in Saint Paul schools. They love to read, play board games and vodeo games, swim, and play soccer and football. They're happy to be back in person this year! My wife is a teacher at Battle Creek Elementary School. We love to spend time with our family, go hiking, and we love teaching.

I like mathematics, puzzles, games, playing disc golf and riding my bike. But most of all, I love helping students appreciate the joy of mathematics.

My Role at Farnsworth:

I will be working with all of the math teachers at Farnsworth Upper to support their teaching and to support student learning in mathematics. I hope to get to know and work with all the students in their math classrooms, and offer extra help to both studens and teachers wherever I can. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions about the mathematics program at Farnsworth.
