Mr. Jeremy Barnes

Jeremy Barnes has been teaching instrumental music at Humboldt High School since the Fall of 2019.  Prior to moving to Minnesota in 2019, he taught at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Connecticut as Director of Instrumental Music for 12 years. He graduated from University of Central Florida in 2007 with a Bachelor of Music Performance in Trombone. He recently earned a Master of Arts Degree from Concordia University, St. Paul (2022).

Mr. Barnes has been an active professional musician and educator for over 20 years, performing in a variety of settings and groups, including orchestras, jazz ensembles, wedding ceremonies, theater orchestras, bands, and salsa bands, to name a few.  Some of Mr. Barnes’ performance accolades include performing with jazz legend Sam Rivers, jazz legend Buddy Morrow, The Four Tops, Walt Disney World, Disney’s Epcot Center, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, The Southwest Florida Symphony, The Vero Beach Symphony, The Space Coast Pops, Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Orlando Repertoire Theater, Bob Stone’s Big Band Orchestra, The Tommy Dorcey Orchestra, Gloria Estefan, Eartha Kitt, Deborah Gibson, among others. Mr. Barnes also is a sought after music educator, with several private students who have gone on to study music and aspire to become professional musicians.  In 2006, he served as a judge for FBA (Florida Band Association) Seminole County District Festival audition. He was faculty in the 2008 Yale-New Haven Summer Music Camp as well as the Yale-Morse Academy in 2010.  From 2014-2015, he served as a wind ensemble and concert band conductor in the Yale-New Haven All-City Honors ensembles.  From 2018 to 2019, he was co-chairperson for High School Band for CMEA (Connecticut Music Educators Association).  In 2018, he was nominated to be music teacher of the year from CMEA.  Mr. Barnes also arranges and composes music, with several of his own arrangements being used in the Wilbur Cross Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band. 

Mr. Barnes is excited to be the instrumental music educator at Humboldt High School.  He believes that every student should have the opportunity to earn and advance their knowledge in the mysteries of music.  When he isn't working, he enjoys time with his wife and daughter, pkaying video games, and spending time ourdoors and going to the movies.
