Mr. Jacob Hanson
Hello! I am Jacob Hanson, and I am a physics teacher here at Como Park. This school year (22/23) will be my second year teaching at Como. I graduated with my Bachelor's in Physics from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, where I also received my teaching license and am currently working towards my Master's of Education.
In my free time, I love playing the guitar, running, and suffering as I watch Minnesota Sports teams.
This year, I am teaching Physical Science, Physics, and Astronomy.
Physical Science is a yearlong class that provides an introduction to high school science, mainly focusing on physics and chemistry. The first half of the year will be an introduction to physics, which will cover topics such as motion, forces, energy and work, and many more. The second half of the year will have a chemistry focus, covering atoms, bonds, the periodic table, basic chemical reactions, and more. Students will also learn problem solving skills and further develop their abilities to conduct scientific labs and experiments.
Physics is also a year-long class that will cover a wide range of topics, including motion, forces, energy and work, rotational motion, gravity, electricity and magnetism, and circuits. Students will develop their problem solving skills and ability to conduct labs. We will spend as much time as possible conducting labs and experiments rather than taking notes.
Astronomy is a one-semester elective, where we will learn all about space and the universe. We will discuss many topics, including Planets, Stars, The Solar System, Galaxies, The Big Bang, Black Holes, Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, Space Exploration / NASA, History and Future of Astronomy, Extraterrestrial Life / Aliens, and hopefully more.
