Ms. Karen Christenson

Hello! Konnichiwa!  I am so glad to join the ELL team here at Crossroads. I teach multilingual students by supporting their English language development in writing, reading, listening, and speaking.

I began my teaching career as an intern for the US Department of Education’s “Multicultural Education Project” at the University of Wisconsin.  After graduating, I had the opportunity to travel and teach in Japan.

In 2018, I celebrated my 25th year of teaching in Saint Paul Public Schools.  I have enjoyed roles as a science specialist, classroom teacher, ELL teacher, curriculum specialist, and gifted and talented services coordinator.  Even though each role has its own flavor, they share a common theme:  Honoring the whole child and their diverse cultures, gifts, and talents.

One of my greatest joys is finding ways to explore the outdoors as a learning lab.  I love fresh air, the seasons, trees, and animals.  I hope to connect children to the natural world for learning, exploration, and FUN!  Here is a short video my nephew Jack and I made to encourage families to go outside to listen for all sorts of sounds ….

The children of Crossroads are wonderful!  They are kind, curious, and ready to learn. Thank you for all you do to support your children.

Thank you! Domo arigato!!
