I'm excited to be moving to 3rd Grade this year!

Welcome to 3rd grade at Linwood Monroe Arts Plus! I am excited to meet you and to start a new school year. Getting to know each other, our room, and our expectations and routines are what we will concentrate this first week of school.

There are so many wonderful learning opportunities for you this year! Some of our highlights will be studying about Minnesota, doing an engineering project, constellations, and magnets and electricity. We will also work on building our community, learn about families, and create an original opera! Also, we will be reading, writing, studying math, learning geography, and going to an arts specialist every day. Many students are concerned about the amount of homework we will have in 4th grade. You will have work to do at home, but we will always talk about our work and make sure you know how to do it before you go home.

I have been teaching for more than 10 years in Saint Paul. I started teaching at Benjamin E. Mays, and moved to Linwood Monroe 6 years ago. I LOVE teaching at Linwood Monroe Arts Plus and am excited for the upcoming year. My husband is an environmental science and biology teacher at Central High School, and we have two children. Maya is in 4th grade here at Linwood Monroe (not in our class!), and our son, Caetano, is 3 years old.  Both my husband and my mother are from Brazil, so I have been lucky to travel a lot throughout my life. I was also a swimmer on the Brazilian National Team for 5 years, and swam at the University of Minnesota when I was in college, so that allowed me to travel even more! I speak Portuguese at home, which is fun to do, and I love the outdoors. This past summer I did a lot of room painting (who would have thought a porch would take 3 weeks to paint!) and my family took a trip to Florida. It was great! I also did a lot of exercise!

I hope that you are as excited about this year as I am! It is my hope that you have the best year possible! Remember to dress comfortably and to wear tennis shoes! The room gets hot, so make sure to wear layers that you can take off or put back on if need be. Feel free to call or email me with any questions you may have!
