Visual Arts

Welcome Back to Art at Mays!

My name is Lindsay Walker and I am entering my 4th year teaching visual arts at Benjamin E. Mays IB World School. I hold a Minnesota K-12 licence in teaching Art, BA in Art and M.Ed in Art Education through the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. In my own studio practice, I enjoy making functional pottery, relief prints, and painting.

I am excited for a new year working with each K-5 artist in our community and further discovering their individual unique and distinctive qualities through their studio practice. We will paint. We will draw. We will sculpt, cut, glue, animate, analyze and take our work as far as our materials and imaginations can take us! This year, we will start out virtually and see where the year takes us - I know that virtually, hybrid-style, or in-person, there is no limit to the creativity of our young artists!

This year, Art lessons will be posted to your child(ren)'s Seesaw and/or Schoology accounts every Tuesday morning and they will have until the following Tuesday to finish the work before new work is posted. My office hours will be every Tuesday from 10:30 - 11:30 in Google Meets for checkins with any student or adult that wants to stop by to check in. See your child's virtual art class for the link.

As we begin this new year in a new way, I look forward to partnering with you in your child's arts education. Please know that you are welcome to contact with me with any questions, concerns, or ideas any time. My email address is lindsay.walker@spps.org and is the fastest way to reach me for now. You can also connect with me through your child's art class in their online learning platform, Seesaw or Schoology. Once SPPS Google Voice accounts become available, I will post my direct contact phone number here. I will also be posting updates and student work on our Mays Arts Twitter account! Please keep an eye on this page and follow the Arts at Mays to see what's happening in our space and in our arts community as we get going this year.

Thank you for everything you do to support the Arts at Mays! I look forward to a super creative and exciting year with you and your child!

    See you soon!

    Best,
