Como Park Boys Soccer Program
The Como Park Boys Soccer program proudly represents our high school, community, and Saint Paul with 4 teams: Varsity, Junior Varsity B Team,
and 9th Grade Team. 85 players on 4 teams compete against the top teams in
Saint Paul and across the state of Minnesota. The foundation of the program's success is the work ethic, unselfishness, and teamwork that make high school sports a special experience. All four teams seek to create a meaningful impact on the players as they strive to grow individually and as a team, creating memories and a unique bond through the course of their season.
2017 Season Summary
The 2017 varsity boys soccer team demonstrated what determination, teamwork, and a commitment to high expectations bring to high school soccer. Building team chemistry came easy to this group, sharing experiences at the Kingswriter farmhouse in southern Minnesota, playing youth soccer at the neighborhood rec center with the youth developmental soccer program at Northwest Como, and horsing around at spaghetti dinners on the deck of alumni and superfans, the Lees. Developing the strong relationships became vital to remaining committed and positive when the team struggled to get results in the first half of the season. Competing in a very strong St. Paul City Conference, the team improved each game and the 2nd half of the season brought results that reflected on the talent and skill within the group. Reflecting on past seasons, the team played its best soccer during the stretch run, retaining the Rice St. Sign with a comeback win over Washington and then performed at a high level in the first ever game in the new stadium, winning a quarterfinal matchup over Hmong Academy. Traveling out to take on top seeded Mahtomedi in the semifinals, every ounce of resolve, grit, and determination came together as the Cougars rallied for a late comeback to earn a 6th consecutive section finals appearance. While the defeat in the final stung, the character of the team shined as they handled defeat with class.

2016 Season Summary
With 10 returning players, the 2016 varsity team took on a daunting schedule against the best soccer programs in the state of Minnesota. The non conference slate including a visit from #5 ranked Austin, a road trip to undefeated State Champion Orono, matches against dominant Fridley and section rival Mahtomedi. Within the conference, opponents brought their best game looking to defeat the Cougars and their reputation of excellence. The team grew through this rigorous slate, starting strong, stumbling in the middle, and gaining strength through interdependence. When section play began, players found their roles and made their run to the 2016 State Tournament. In the rivalry series, a last minute goal against Washington preserved possession of the Rice St. Sign and resilient defending held off Humboldt to win the first ever, Mayor’s Cup. Through the journey, the players became teammates and brothers forever, sealing a common bond of passion for soccer and love of one’s school and team.
