Welcome to Phalen Lake
January 8, 2018
At Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet, we welcome, respect, and learn from each other. Our diversity is our strength and we cherish the many traditions, languages, cultures, and races that enrich our classrooms.
December 8, 2017 was a day of celebration at Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet! It was our Hmong and Karen New Year! Families and Community members joined us in celebrating the New Year which included great student productions. We watched powerful performances from 4tht rade students reciting their personal poems, We are America and Fifth grade students sharing their poems Where We’re From. All our first grade students sang a Kwv Txhiaj, a Hmong Folksong, titled The Hmong Journey. Our second grade students sang loudly and proudly We are Hmong! Third grade students recited Lub
Tshiab — A New Year poem. We watched high energy, magical dance performances from the Karen Don Dance group from Karen Culture of Minnesota and The Blazing Sapphire Dance group from Daolan Dance Studio. Our program ended with a beautiful Multicultural Fashion show with our students as models. It was a great and joyful evening. This coming New Year is sure to be a joyous one!
A deeply heartfelt thank you is extended to all families and adults who worked so long and hard preparing the traditional Hmong & Karen food throughout the day! We are also grateful for the donations of rice and other much needed items to make our event a success! We especially want to thank Chaw Tua Npua and Hogmasters who provided us with the hog for our feast! Ua tsaug!
Finally, Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet has one of the finest staff anywhere! Thank you to the committee for your thoughtful planning in creating another great New Year Celebration, thank you to all the staff who created, rehearsed, and supposed student performances, all the staff who worked late into the evening serving food and cleaning up, our fabulous engineers who also worked late into the evening to support this event and finally our Family Room staff, PTO and parents for all you did to suppon our learners and panicipate in this amazing event!
