Welcome to Phalen Lake

  • Dear Fabulous Phalen Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!  Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet school is an amazing place for your children to grow and learn.  I am excited, honored and deeply humbled that I have the privilege of serving as your principal.

While our start to school this year is unlike any other we’ve experienced, please know that our Phalen staff is eagerly planning and preparing to make Distance Learning 2.0 (DL 2.0) the best possible experience we can for you and your children.

Learning doesn’t just happen within the four walls of a classroom, or in front of an iPad during DL 2.0.  Our children are being educated every minute of every day.  In order to make the most of the learning opportunities in front of our students right now, it is essential that we work together as a team to nurture and guide our learners.

Families, please complete the iUpdate and look for texts or emails from Phalen Lake School and communication directly from your child’s teacher.  Regularly check-in with your learner.  You are our most important partner in keeping track of how our students are doing.  We are committed to growing a happy, healthy scholar.  We are doing this by offering a challenging and creative curriculum, social and emotional instruction, art and physical education, Hmong culture and language instruction including our Hmong Dual Language program.

Please reach out to us with any questions, concerns, or ideas on how we can make this fall the absolute best learning experience, during these challenging times!  If you notice your child disconnecting from the daily learning tasks, let us know, right away!  You can reach me at Catherine.rich@spps.org or 651-276-6303.  Phalen’s main number is 651-293-8935.

I so loved seeing all our happy students and parents at the iPad and material pick-up.  We all are looking forward to the time when we can be back together in the building.  In the meantime, please remember to wear a mask, practice social distancing and regularly wash your hands.  We all want to be together in person!
