Welcome to Parkway Montessori and Community Middle School! My name is Jocelyn Sims and I am very honored to be the principal at Parkway. I am currently going into my second year at Parkway and am looking forward to the work that the students, staff and community have been committed to doing to ensure that we become an innovator in public, urban, Montessori Secondary Education.
We focus our efforts at Parkway on creating an environment that meets the needs of the whole child, ensuring that we are embracing each student, honoring his/her race, culture, gender and identity. Learning is the key to everything that we do, both with our students in classroom and with each other as adults after the school day is over. We strive to meet the needs of all of our learners, committed to using data to inform the instruction we provide our students. Utilizing what we know about the Montessori philosophy, we ensure that Montessori methods are the core to the work we do as a learning community.
This past year was our first year as a Restorative Practice site and I am pleased with the impact it has had on our school community and overall environment. We learned of the importance of doing restorative practices with our students and not to them. We learned that repairing harm is much more impactful on changing student behavior than alternative practices. I look forward to continuing our journey with Restorative Practices, strengthening the culture and climate of our school.
On a personal note, I have been married to my husband Damon for 12 years and we have three wonderfully active boys: Maximus (12), Manny (10), and Elijah (6). I can't forget to mention our dog, Arjo, who is a boxer! Outside of being a principal, I enjoy spending time with our boys, watching them play football, basketball and baseball. Spending time at the gym with my husband is also a favorite and keeps me in good shape, mentally and physically!
I want to personally thank you for sending your child to Parkway. I look forward to work every day because every day offers something different! Working with middle school youth is fun, exciting and challenging and I love every minute of it! Your voice is important to me and the success of Parkway. Please know I welcome the opportunity to meet in person, talk on the phone or communicate through email. I look forward to meeting you this upcoming school year! Go Pumas!
