Greetings! My name is Melissa Green - Montessori teacher in Class 1404.
I am currently teaching E1 through SPPS's Virtual Learning School (VLS). We continue to use Seesaw as our online learning platform, and Google meets for our live meetings. We work hard to integrate our Montessori environment and curriculum (details below) into virtual learning. Please click on the Daily schedule link for more information... including our daily live meeting times and how to reach me.
Our Elementary 1 classroom has students in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. We are dedicated to the Montessori curriculum - Math, Geometry, Language, Music, Zoology, Botany, and Cultural Studies (Geography, History, & Social Studies). We focus on the development of personal as well as social skills in our community. We strive to be independent, thoughtful, and peaceful learners. During the summer months we learn about life cycles and hands on botany through gardening. I have led this class for 19 years, and every year is an opportunity for growth. I cherish my students and supporting individual needs to engage and support learning. We celebrate diversity in Class 1404, and I am honored to lead the way.
When not at school, I love spending time in the natural world as much as possible; hiking, kayaking, camping, and gardening are some of my favorite outdoor activities. I love to make music! I play guitar, piano, and sing, which I share with my students as well. I love to read in my hammock and create art. I live in the Hamline Midway neighborhood in St. Paul, and my grown daughter lives nearby. We love to travel as much as possible, and with the year-round calendar we are able to spend most February's visiting family in Jamaica. I enjoy cooking, and sharing Sunday dinner with loved ones. We have a dog, a cat, and a kitten at home - Layla, Jazz, and Ziggy.
I discovered Montesssori education when I was living in Tucson, Arizona. It was a calling, and I am very passionate about the journey. My daughter started in Montessori at the age of 2, and went to Montessori preschool, elementary school (here at Crossroads) and on to a Montessori middle/highschool. I feel very blessed to continue to learn with my students every year as a Montessori teacher.
"The education of even a small child, therefore, does not aim at preparing them for school, but for life" - Dr. Maria Montessori
