Ms. Patricia Merchant
Ms. Patricia Merchant, MSW, LICSW
Pat is a school social worker and has been at Como Elementary since 2003 and worked in St Paul Public Schools since that time. She received her masters from University of Minnesota. Prior to being a school social worker, she was a hospital social worker and worked for the HealthEast Care system. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and majored in social work.
When Pat is not at Como she enjoys being outside, going on adventures as well as working out, golfing and traveling. Pat enjoys working with children and using creativity, mindfulness, team buiding, artistic expression to meet their needs.
Pat lives in the Twin Cities with her husband. She loves being a grandmother and watching her children and in-law's create intentional and meaningful lives. Pat's nest has never been empty. Guests and grandchildren, special dinners and sleepovers, toys and books, and the ‘next great adventure’ still fill her family home.
Pat appreciates what she sees happening at Como Elementary School. “It takes a village” is a truism here. The entire staff strives to focus on the whole child. They do this day-in and day-out as a team. Pat provides the mental health services at Como as well as supporting children and their families who maybe in transition, homeless or experiencing a crisis. She is able to meet with families in the community or they are always welcomes to visit with her at school. Parents in this school community participate in their child’s education. They ‘show up’ for them at home and in school. There is a sense in the building of high expectations and high adventures. The students are brought along to believe in themselves, to claim and hone their skills and then rise to be their best. Staff and parents and students all grow and shine here together.
