Hello and Welcome to Second Grade!

I am thrilled to be teaching second grade again at Horace Mann this year!  This year marks my 13th year working in the Saint Paul Public Schools, with the majority of my time working with second graders. I love this age group and feel my strengths align well with the curriculum. My goal is to build a tight-knit community of learners who work, play, and problem solve together.

My hope for each student is that they grow tremendously as strategic readers, critical thinkers, problem solvers, and become creative, life-long learners.

I was born in Minneapolis, MN and grew up in the Minnehaha Falls area. I decided in third grade I wanted to become a teacher and never considered any other profession.  I spent countless hours “playing school” in my grandma’s basement with my neighborhood friends. I attended the University of Minnesota for both my degree in teaching and my masters. I have two boys, ages five and eight. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, walking, gardening, and fishing. This past summer we added another furry friend to our family. Pepper, our new Boston Terrier puppy, has kept the whole family busy! My family, teaching, and nature all bring me great joy!

Communication is crucial and I strongly believe that parents and educators working together as a team is what is best for children. I will be sending home weekly newsletters that will go home on Fridays in the Friday folder (and on Seesaw.) We will be using the Seesaw app to share work completed in class with you at home. Think of Seesaw as a digital portfolio of your child’s work, along with another place to communicate with me. Please look for instructions to come home about getting the free Seesaw app. It’s a wonderful way to see what’s happening in our classroom. We share photos, videos, work samples, and voice recordings weekly. Here’s to a fabulous year in second grade!!!

I look forward to working together with you this year-
