I have the great fortune to be the counselor at JAJ! It’s an exciting place to be, and I love that every day I get to work with such caring, committed staff and vibrant students.
I have been an Elementary School Counselor in the St. Paul Public Schools since 1993. Before coming to SPPS, I taught both 6th grade and 4th grade as a classroom teacher. As a teacher, I especially loved getting to know my students, listening to them, helping them learn to get along with others, and teaching them how to solve problems. This is what I do today as a school counselor, which I consider to be my dream job.
I strongly believe students can be successful learners when they have positive relationships at school. As a school counselor, the skills, behaviors, and mindsets students need to establish and maintain those relationships are at the core of the services and support I work to provide for all JAJ students every day.
I am both a licensed teacher and a licensed school counselor, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. I am also certified as a Bullying Prevention Specialist through ASCA, the American School Counselor Association.
One of my favorite things to do is to hang out with my kids. My husband, Dan, and I are the parents of 2 adult children. Our daughter, Lissa, is a recent graduate of Minnesota State University - Mankato, and our son, Henry, is a student at the University of Minnesota. They keep me laughing, and I enjoy every minute I get to spend with them. I also enjoy reading a good book (when I can stay awake) and connecting with the rest of my family, especially my parents, who live in Coon Rapids, MN, where I grew up.
I love working with both students and families, and welcome questions or concerns. Please feel free to contact me any time.
I look forward to meeting you!
