iPads for Students

  • Dear Humboldt Parent or Guardian,

As you may have heard, students at our school will begin using iPads soon. In order to help communicate with families and assist with setting up student Apple IDs, we are asking for your parent/guardian email address. Please fill out the Email Request Form and send it back to school with your child as soon as possible.

Your child needs an Apple ID so that we can personalize your student’s learning with iPads. An Apple ID is a private, personal account with Apple that enables students to tailor an iPad to their learning needs. An Apple ID provides easy access to school materials such as documents, textbooks, course material, homework assignments, and projects. It will also allow them to backup the iPad so materials can be accessed if it is lost or broken. Without an Apple ID, students can still use their iPad, but their learning experience will be significantly limited.

Parents/guardians must give permission for students under 13 years of age to have an Apple ID due to federal law.Apple requires that we ask for parent permission through email, so that is why we are asking for your email address. (Apple will not send you advertisements, but Saint Paul Public Schools may email you about important district news occasionally. We won’t give your email address or any other personal information to other organizations without your permission.)

Students 13 years and older will set up their Apple ID in class with their teacher; no action is needed from parents/guardians.

We will be having Family iPad Orientation Events according to student grade level. If you are unable to attend on your assigned day, you may attend any of the three dates. Families with multiple students only need to come on one night.

    • Grades 6 & 7: Tuesday, Oct. 28 between 3:30–6:30 p.m.
    • Grades 8 & 9: Wednesday, Oct. 29 between 3:30–6:30 p.m.
    • Grades 10, 11 & 12: Thursday, Oct. 30 between 2:30–4:30 p.m.

At the Orientation Events there will be a brief orientation of the Student and Family iPad Handbook. BOTH a parent/guardian AND the student will need to sign the Student iPad Loan Agreement in order for your student to fully use the iPad, especially outside of school.

    • If your child is under 13 years of age, we will help families set up a student Apple ID account. (If you do not have an email address, we will also help you set one up at this event.)

Please note that your student will not receive an iPad at this event; rather, iPads will be handed out in class during the day soon after the family orientation event.
