Degrees and Certifications:
University of Minnesota Duluth BA in Music Education
Alex Ferderer
I originally went to Bemidji State University for two years, and then transferred to University of Minnesota Duluth, where I graduated in 2014 with a bachelor’s in music education. After graduating, I was offered a teaching position at Harding Senior High School, which is where I completed my student teaching. Along with teaching here at Open World Learning Community, I am also a “manny” for 3 boys here in the Twin Cities. I also teach voice and beginning piano lessons on the side.
This is my first year teaching at Open World Learning Community and my second year teaching. I taught Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir, and Guitar at Harding Senior High School last year.
Other than teaching, I enjoy playing on a few volleyball teams; I am in a professional choir called From Age to Age, and I love to go to friend’s cabins on the weekends. I love to travel and have had wonderful opportunities to see many parts of the world. I really enjoy emerging myself in a culture and learning from other groups of people who differ from myself.
I have known that I wanted to teach music since I was in elementary school. I really enjoy the team building and cooperation that goes into a music class. In my classes, students will have fun, learn music theory and history, make friends, and as a class, we will create an open and safe environment for everyone to feel welcome and appreciated.
