Degrees and Certifications:
I teach 9th and 12th English and AP Language and Composition. I am passionate about learning from teaching. When I graduated from Como Park High School in 2008, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher because I loved tutoring and watching students understand topics they thought were too difficult for them. I graduated from Bethel University with a degree in Communication Arts and Literature Education for grades 5-12, and now I am back at Como in my sixth year here as a teacher. I am also the Dare 2 Be Real advisor.
I love to read in general, but I especially love poetry, the Harry Potter series, and any kind of mystery. Any good book recommendations are always welcome! Also, I have a three year old Siberian husky named Arya.

AOF English 9
The goal of Academy of Finance English is to make students more skilled readers, writers, speakers, and thinkers. This class is rigorous, with the understanding that most students are interested in finance and business. We will be reading short stories, Of Mice and Men, The Odyssey, and Romeo and Juliet this year, along with selected works of nonfiction. Writing assignments will include a resume, short and long analysis essays, and a research paper.
12th Grade English
The goal of English 12 is to make students more skilled readers, writers, speakers, and thinkers. This class is rigorous, students are expected to act professionally and work hard.
AP Language and Composition
This course is designed as a college level course with an emphasis on preparation for the AP Language and Composition exam in May, which students may choose to take as a means of qualifying for college English credit. It is a prerequisite for CIS English Composition and Literature, which is offered at our school for twelfth graders.
Students in this introductory college-level course read and carefully analyze a broad and challenging range of nonfiction prose selections, deepening their awareness of rhetoric and how language works. Through close reading and frequent writing, students develop their ability to work with language and text with a greater awareness of purpose and strategy, while strengthening their own composing abilities. Course readings feature expository, analytical, personal, and argumentative texts from a variety of authors and historical contexts. Students will write in several forms, such as narrative, expository, analytical, and argumentative.
