Parkway Montessori & Community Middle School Mission:
The Parkway Learning Communities are dedicated to growing interdependence by engaging learners in equitable, thought-provoking Montessori environment in which students see themselves as leaders in our global society.
Parkway Montessori & Community Middle School Vision:
Our school will be an innovator in public, urban, Montessori Secondary Education by having a school culture that involves students, families, staff and community. It will be a place where culturally relevant cross-curricular opportunities are embedded in daily learning, and where adolescents will discover a sense of belonging and purpose within the Parkway community, our global society and the greater collection of knowledge.
Established in 2013, Parkway is the first Montessori middle school in Saint Paul Public School history. It is located in the former Parkway Elementary School building – renovated just for us – in the northeast quadrant of Saint Paul. Parkway teaches SPPS curriculum in the Montessori way: independent inquiry rooted in each student’s interests and learning style.
At Parkway, instruction guides each child to discover his or her individual strengths, needs, likes, and learning styles under the Montessori philosophy. Lively mixed-grade classrooms are designed to help students stay engaged and inspired. In addition to core subjects, Parkway offers instrumental music, physical education, health, science and social studies electives, and after-school programming.
Parkway is one of the few Montessori middle schools in Minnesota. Here, students enjoy the freedom to learn, explore, and understand the world around them. Large, raised-garden beds greet students into the building, providing a wonderful way to connect with nature, explore the science of food, and experience the cycle of the seasons. Our unique location, next to Penny Park and an urban forest, provides further opportunities for natural habitat exploration. We are proud of our community partners who have landscaped our front entry, updated our courtyard, and helped create outdoor classroom spaces.
