The Science Department at Parkway Montessori is dedicated to providing a hands-on, inquiry based approach to learning. Our curriculum focuses on developing students’ questioning, investigative, and problem-solving skills while covering the MN state standards. We have high expectations for our students, and our Montessori learning environment engages students in meaningful activities and projects that enable them to apply and communicate their knowledge.
The Montessori environment includes mixed aged classes, supporting students’ social development, confidence, patience, and self-motivation. Due to the three year age grouping, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades will all be studying the same field of science. This year we are studying Life Science, next year Earth Science, and the following year will be Physical Science.
Our science classes enjoy exploring and studying the forest that is adjacent to Parkway, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the University of MN to develop a beautiful natural space the community can also enjoy and appreciate. This spring and summer we plan to start a vegetable and herb garden on the west side of the school. Parkway is continuing to collaborate with Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District to maintain our beautiful gardens and design and create new outdoor spaces.
