Children's House at Cherokee

Children's House
  • On a typical day, children begin their morning in group time after breakfast. During work time in the morning and afternoon, students move at their own pace on activities that interest them. They receive individual and small group instruction in language, math, geography, science, sensory exploration and practical life skills. Art, lunch and outdoor time are a part of the daily schedule. At every level throughout the day, students practice the social skills of grace and courtesy in their interactions with each other and with teaching staff.

“The child can only develop fully by means of experience in his

environment. We call such experience ‘work’.” - Maria Montessori
