Ms. Nehring

I have been teaching at Dayton's Bluff Achievement Plus Elementary since 2011.  I love teaching third graders academically and socially throughout the school year.  I enjoy teaching math the most!

I grew up in Minnesota and love spending time with my family.  In the winter, I like to play hockey and go snowboarding.  In the summer, I enjoy spending time with my family at the lake house.  I also enjoy reading in my spare time.

I attended Hamline University to achieve my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education.

Literacy Corner

  • Reader's workshop includes a whole group mini lesson, independent work time, and group work time with the teacher..  In third grade, we are focusing on mastering fluency, figuring out unknown words, and comprehension.  This is the first year students will take the MCA test in April.  We focus on reading a text while being able to interpret the information and answer questions about the text.

Writer's workshop also has a mini lesson, independent work time, and independent/small group work time with the teacher.  We practice writing many different genres including memoir, personal narrative, research projects, poetry, and persuasive writing.

During skills students are able to learn about different spelling patterns to improve their writing.  We do activities and work on definitions of different words.

Math Corner

  • Third grade math is building on the foundations of kindergarten through second grade. We begin with a whole group lesson, then work on math activities and small group time with the teacher.  Students use manipulatives, paper pencil, and mental math to solve different types of problems. Third graders focus is adding and subtracting with regrouping, basic multiplication and division, telling time, fractions, and reading numbers to a million.  We also use all these skills to solve real world problems.  Math time also includes math review, which is a time to work on previously taught skills.
