Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Mai Yia
Hi! My name is Mai Yia Lee. I have been assigned as your child’s third grade teacher. I have been working in the St. Paul Public School district for over 20 years. I taught first grade most of my teaching career; however, I have taught second and third grades as well as ELL. I am a proud mother of five children ranging from ages 15 through 28; and a grandmother of three lovely grandchildren ages 2 months old, 4 years and 8 years old. I am really excited to teach third grade. I am also very fortunate to have your child in my class.
Throughout the year, I will be strengthening your child’s math, reading, and vocabulary skills as a well as teaching all students how to deal with conflicts in ways that do not physically and emotionally hurt one another. I will be working hard to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for your child. I need your help in creating this safe and nurturing learning environment. I ask that you help me teach your child to deal with his/her feelings in positive, unhurtful ways
Your child will be receiving a packet of homework on Monday and due Friday, of that same week. I expect all students to work to the best of their ability. It is also an expectation that they complete their assignments in a manner that reflects care and pride in their work. My goal is for students to develop more independence along with greater responsibilities in preparation for the future. Please help encourage your child to complete his/her homework assignments. Parents are just as important to your child’s education as educators are. It’s a parent’s enthusiasm, support, and involvement that inspire our children to do their best. A partnership with you ensures that our students can achieve their highest potential.
It is my belief that positive interaction between teacher and parent strengthens the feeling of support all children need for success in school. My goal this year is to create an atmosphere of open communication regarding your child’s progress and behavior in both home and school. For this particular reason, please don’t hesitate to call me to express a comment, a concern or to ask a question about your child, the classroom, or the school. By working together we will be able to meet the needs of your child. I am looking forward to sharing this year with you and your child.
