I would like to introduce myself. I am Don Parnell and I will be your child’s kindergarten teacher. I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year.
I have been teaching at Mississippi Creative Arts for a number of years. I have been a Kindergarten and 3rd grade classroom teacher, a Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade basic skills teacher and a K-6th grade Rti teacher.
It will be important for you and myself to develop an open line of communication. All of my contact information is listed at the bottom of this letter. The best time to reach me by phone will be before 9:10 in the morning or after school at about 4:10. I will be checking my emails during lunch and before and after school. If there is an emergency, please call the office at 651-293-8840. Please let me know the best emails and/or phone numbers to reach you. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Your child will have a homework folder that they will be bringing home every day. There will be reading homework and other subjects almost every night. There will also be important letters and forms sent home in this homework folder. Please check your child’s homework folder every night. Forms or notes that you have to send to school, you may place in the folder for your child to turn in. There will be a bi-weekly newsletter from our classroom. The newsletter will inform you of what is happening in our classroom. The back of the newsletter will have a Family Update, it will inform you if your child is following classroom rules, using time productively and completing assignments.
We will be spending most of our time on math, reading, writing and skills. I will be teaching the St. Paul Public School Districts curriculum in all of these areas. Your child will also be having Art, Music, Drama and Dance.
I hope only to have to contact you for all of the great things that your child is doing in school. However, the office or I will contact you if your child is having a behavior problem. As a class, we will be working together to make our classroom rules during the first few weeks of school. Look for our class rules in an upcoming newsletter.
I truly look forward to working with your child and you during this school year. Again, please contact me with any questions or concerns.
